For this project, we worked with the The Neighbor Project in San Francisco to research how Engage Project might increase community engagement for recently arrived immigrant families with young children in Potrero Hill at The Neighbor Project's block party event.
The objective of our project is to find ways for parents or parental figures of families who have recently immigrated to the Potrero Hill area to feel confident and comfortable in their community, specifically regarding their participation and involvement in the community.
2. SECONDARY RESEARCH
Through our secondary research, we gathered some basic understanding about Potrero Hill through online searching. We found that the population in Potrero Hill is overall well-educated and the living situation is generally good besides the living cost being relatively high.
3. PRIMARY RESEARCH
The recruiting process took longer than we thought…
Because our research target is very specific, we had a hard time finding people who met the criteria. In order to reach out to our research target, we tried different methods. We put up posters around the community, posted on websites used by the community and reached out to people in local stores and parks with surveys.
In the end...
We managed to interview nine people and get twenty three surveys.
To understand our target's behavior, we transcribed each interview and summarized them by using an empathy model under the frame of say, think, do, feel and pain points.
Behavior model is used to see the behavior pattern.(click to see the whole file)
At the end of this project, we reported our findings to Neighborhood projects. Neighborhood projects was particularly interested in insight #3, and they were thinking about redesigning their advertising approach.
